Ven. Lama Losang Samten

..........Losang Samten was born in Ribuce Chang, near Lhasa in Central Tibet in 1953. He and his family fled to Nepal in 1959 and later moved to Dharamsala India in 1961. Losang studied with the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts and later joined the Namgyal Monastery where he earned a Master's Degree in Philosophy and Debate in 1985. Here he also became a scholar of Sutra and Tantra. Losang is a ritual dance master of the Namgyal Monastery and was chief artist of the first Kalachakra Sand Mandala constructed in the United States at the American Museum of Natural History. He has served as a personal attendant for His Holiness, the Dalai Lama and has been dance master for the Kalachakra Dances at the Kalachakra Initiations in Los Angeles in 1989 and New York City in 1991. Losang was a consultatnt on the set of Kundun and played the part of Kitchen Master in the movie. In 2002 he received a National Endowment for the Arts Heritage Fellowship Lifetime Honor Award. In 2004 Losang was awarded a Pew Fellowhip in the Arts. Losang Samten has established Buddhist centers in Philadelphia, Connecticut, Lake Tahoe and El Paso, Texas.
